Personal testimonies

Millersville University has placed a request for proposal, to outside medical providers, in an effort to outsource our Health Services. If administration decides to outsource, our health care workers at Health Services will no longer be employed by Millersville University. Not only will they lose their jobs but will also lose their opportunity for full investment with their retirement.

Health Services staff value us as students and patients. They are vested in our education and our success. They play a critical role in retention, progression, and graduation of our students by providing access to high-quality, accessible, and affordable health care. They understand the unique needs of a college student and have formed relationships with various departments on campus to provide a network of support for students.

They provide campus outreach and are vested in the health of our campus community. They see every visit with a patient as an opportunity to provide health education and mentorship.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, as the campus went remote, the health services staff remained on campus providing care at the risk of their own health and safety. They were able to establish free on site rapid COVID testing and cared for students with COVID symptoms who were turned away from their own health care providers.

I was so grateful to have the opportunity to work along side the health services staff as a student worker for my senior year of college. I was able to witness first hand how hard these nurses work and care for each student that would come into our doors. They were not just the students caregivers, but also our mentors, and great leaders to every student they encountered. It was evident the care and passion every member of the health services staff had for us as students. They treated every patient like their own, and that was something remarkable to witness everyday. I am forever thankful that I was able to be a part of the staff for a portion of my collegiate experience.

I am asking you to sign this petition to help PROTECT the nurses that have worked so hard to PROTECT us. We should show solidarity in thanking and supporting our health services team for their commitment to Millersville University, campus community, and the health/safety of our students.
