Support affordable housing in Mill Valley

The Issue

Mill Valley has a critical housing issue where 90% of our teachers, fire fighters,  nursing aides, etc. have to commute--causing unnecessary traffic and pollution.  Mill Valley's population has not increased significantly in the last 30 years, but traffic has!

Mill Valley's population is 87% white and the biggest block to greater diversity is lack of affordable housing.

The proposal being put forth by the city's Housing Advisory Committee for 1 Hamilton Dr is our best option to build affordable housing in Mill Valley. The proposal has put forth 50 public parking spots to replace the 35 on site in addition to parking for all residents on site.

At this juncture, the HAC needs the council to vote to proceed to the next step, which is to solicit interest in a nonprofit builder (no builder has been selected). All citizens will be able to participate in every step of this long process. There is no current plan for any specific structure.

The Mill Valley City Council should:

1. Vote to support the current findings of the Housing Advisory Committee.

2. Preserve our small town character by keeping Mill Valley workers in Mill Valley.

3. Be more environmentally conscious by building affordable housing, which will reduce commuting and pollution.

Let's keep Mill Valley a vibrant and compassionate community!
