The Issue

Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road between Hwy 16 and Bellhaven is already a daily traffic bottleneck. The final petition has 95 townhomes with an estimated additional car trips from the development each day. This will only worsen congestion, strain public safety services, and worsen conditions for current and future residents. Rezoning proposal 2025-030 introduces higher-density development in an area that currently lacks the infrastructure to support it. Mountain Island needs thoughtful, well-planned growth that aligns with community capacity and safety. We urge you to sign this petition to oppose rezoning 2025-030 and demand that city leaders prioritize traffic management, road upgrades, and community safety before approving more development. This project isn’t right for our area because: The road can’t handle increased traffic Emergency vehicle access may be delayed The development lacks integration with the surrounding neighborhood Let’s protect the livability and safety of our community.
