We want our children to be able to walk to school safely without risk of injury or worse. 

Please sign our petition asking Mike Whiting, Kent County Council Cabinet Member for Planning, Highways, Transport and Waste to agree to implement measures to make the streets safer outside St John's School. 

The streets outside St John's School, Sevenoaks are hazardous. There is a dangerous combination of a blind corner, a junction and barely any visible signage informing drivers that they are approaching a school to encourage them to reduce their speed. 

Kent County Council's policy states that unless there is a fatality they will not consider implementing traffic calming measures. 

Let's not wait for a tragic accident to implement simple yet effective measures that would reduce the risk of harm for both children and families walking to school, as well as create safer streets for the wider community- pedestrians, cyclists and drivers alike. 

We are asking Kent County Council to:

• Implement a 20mph speed limit on Bayham Road and Quakers Hall Lane
• Increase the signage on the streets around the school alerting drivers that children may be crossing
• Create a safe crossing outside the school entrance on Bayham Road.

“I urge Kent County Council to listen to local residents and implement a 20 MPH speed limit and better signage on each side of St John’s Primary School, Sevenoaks.  Slower traffic and a safer road will also encourage more children to walk to and from school.” said Rt Hon Sir Michael Fallon, MP for Sevenoaks. 

This campaign is supported by Sevenoaks Town Councillor Tony Clayton, Sevenoaks District Councillor Elizabeth Purves (Sevenoaks Eastern) and Sevenoaks District Councillor Dr. Merilyn Canet (Sevenoaks Northern), as well as HollyBush Resident's Association.
