Do not sell your elephants to Bowmanville! / Ne vendez pas vos éléphants à Bowmanville!

(Français plus bas)

Limba the lonely elephant at Bowmanville Zoo was killed in the night of December 3, 2013-hidden from the public eye- no third party specialist on site. She is the most recent casualty in the long sad line of animal victims eliminated by Hackenberger and the seventh elephant to die there. Angus died “mysteriously” just a few days before his transfer to Africa that would have cost Hackenberger $350,000. The remaining five elephants Lisa, Tony, Ceasar, Vance and Sheba all died too soon. They died or were killed for either unknown reasons or mere leg issues.

Elephants are one of the primary exhibits in any zoo, and very important for zoos to maintain their own profitable bottom line. Not to forget that Bowmanville also uses their animals in their associated circus. It makes perfect business sense for M. Hackenberger to shop around for a new elephant. This new victim would go down Limba’s sad path:   being trucked for thousands of kilometres to perform painful tricks and spend the rest of the year confined in a zoo enclosure.

KARA has reason to believe that Bowmanville will try to purchase his next elephant from African Lion Safari.

According to their mission statement, African Lion Safari “has worked toward the conservation and preservation of many endangered and threatened species”. It would prove quite tragic and contradictory if one of their elephants would end up as entertainment attraction at Bownmanville. We are urging African Lion Safari: Please do not make such a fateful mistake. Please do not sell or loan your elephants to Bowmanville! Please choose to not be complicit in this senseless cycle of suffering!

---------

Do not sell or loan your elephants to Bowmanville!
KARA and the undersigned urge you to refuse selling your elephants to Bowmanville. We have reason to believe that Bowmanville Zoo will approach African Lion Safari with an offer to purchase an elephant. This will be to replace Limba as lucrative zoo and circus attraction. Limba was never allowed to enjoy retirement. Her last summer on earth she spent being trucked around in a trailer for thousands of kilometres just to perform unnatural tricks for the circus. Just a week before her death she was forced to work and participate in a Christmas parade!

She is the most recent casualty in the long sad line of animal victims eliminated by Hackenberger and the seventh elephant to die there. Angus died “mysteriously” just a few days before he would have cost Hackenberger $350,000 . The remaining five elephants Lisa, Tony, Ceasar, Vance and Sheba all died too soon. They were killed for either unknown reasons or mere leg issues. According to your website, African Lion Safari “has worked toward the conservation and preservation of many endangered and threatened species”. If this is truly your mission it would be a fateful mistake to allow one of your elephants to end up as entertainment object at Bowmanville.

Do not be complicit in this senseless cycle of suffering.
