Dear Friend of the Chili Bowl,
Thank you for joining more than 965 concerned citizens who have signed the petition urging councilmember Mike Bonin to pause the pending demolition permit and help to move L.A.’s last Chili Bowl from its longtime home at 12244 West Pico Boulevard to a safe location within the city of Los Angeles.
Does the Los Angeles Conservancy know something that the general public doesn’t?
The latest official filing about the controversial rejection of the Chili Bowl landmarking nomination, and the Los Angeles Conservancy’s court filing asking a judge to rule on the city’s illegal Brown Act violations that kept members of the public from being heard was on November 5, when the City Attorney sent a confidential report to the Planning and Land Use Committee—the same PLUM Committee charged in the court filing with violating citizens’ rights.
Since Mark Ridley-Thomas was arrested for public corruption, PLUM has not been meeting regularly, and this matter has not yet been scheduled for a public hearing.
And yet, the Los Angeles Conservancy’s website was updated today to say that at 2pm on November 30, people who care about the Chili Bowl should be prepared to call in to the PLUM Committee and be heard as a new vote is taken.
Although the Conservancy have not reached out to us (Friends of the Chili Bowl) with this important update, we watch their website closely for changes, and this suggests the city is sharing non-public information with the non-profit that’s seeking a judge’s intervention.
We’ll keep an eye on the PLUM agenda and let you know how you can let the city know what you think about the Chili Bowl. And until then, why not save the date and time of November 30, 2pm? PLUM keeps cancelling meetings, but maybe this one will actually happen, and the Chili Bowl can be back on the path to getting landmarked. It ought to be!
That’s all the news that fits in a giant Chili Bowl. Please continue to share the petition (http://www.change.org/SaveTheChiliBowl) with friends who love the Chili Bowl and want to see it saved. And stay tuned for additional updates as they happen.
Yours for Los Angeles,
Kim Cooper & Richard Schave
