Mike Baird, let's see Wentworth Park developed as a public dog park and rescue centre.

The issue

The Wentworth Park greyhound racetrack site could be developed as urgently needed open parkland, including a dog park and rescue centre.

The Wentworth Park site has been set aside as public land in Sydney since the Blackwattle Bay Land Reclamation Act of 1873, and the Glebe and Pyrmont areas have steady population growth.

Off leash dog parks encourage socialisation of dogs and their owners, and have a health, psychological and emotional benefit for the community. Dog parks have a real role in the socialization of a city. Off-leash areas expand upon that. Dog owners and their pets can also create an atmosphere of safety in our public parks.
