Hope you are all keeping well and safe during the lockdown.

We have now decided to adopt another rescue dog in need. This little one is another female Podengo but she is much younger than Carrie so we shouldn't have to worry about loosing her so suddenly. We will collect her from the shelter in June.

Sadly, she is one of 30 Podengos that were rescued by the Municipal Kennel of Funchal from a house in Camara de Lobos last year. These poor dogs were living in appalling conditions in this house but i don't think it was a case of deliberate abuse. just someone letting the situation get out of hand, leaving them to breed and keeping the pups.

There are still 15 of these dogs that have not been adopted as yet but hopefully they will be before too long. They are traditionally a hunting breed used for rabbit hunting but they make really good pets also as they are funny, attentive and easy to train. This is a picture of her above.

I would just like to remind you all how much this petition has influenced people here and also the  regional government took note of the public mood regarding animal welfare before the elections last year and introduced certtain measures to give financial assistance to animal charity organisations.
