The Issue

Soccer has become a central part of my family and our community's lives. As a parent of two dedicated young students who have embraced the sport with enthusiasm and passion, I see firsthand the positive impact it has on their lives. Participating in soccer not only keeps them physically active but also teaches them valuable life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. Unfortunately, in Mansfield ISD, middle school soccer is currently not an option.

With the growing popularity of soccer in the United States, and particularly in Texas, it's time to consider the tangible benefits an organized middle school soccer program could bring to our district. According to the U.S. Soccer Foundation, participation in youth soccer can enhance learning skills, academic performance, and emotional growth. In fact, children engaged in sports are 15% more likely to achieve higher academic success.

This push for a middle school program is exceptionally timely, especially considering the exciting developments right here in Mansfield. The recent announcement that Mansfield, TX, will be the site of a new professional soccer stadium underscores the sport's massive growth and deep roots in our community. This facility will not only host professional games but will also serve as a regional hub of soccer culture, inspiring thousands of young athletes and creating a visible, professional pathway for our dedicated youth. We need to capitalize on this wave of local excitement by providing organized pathways, starting at the middle school level, to ensure our students can engage with this burgeoning local industry and passion.

Neighboring school districts have successfully implemented middle school soccer programs, witnessing improved school spirit and student engagement. By introducing a soccer program in our middle schools, we can offer our students the opportunity to nurture their athletic abilities and build a stronger, more inclusive community.

I urge our school district leaders to recognize this opportunity and take action. Establishing a middle school soccer program would not only benefit our current students but also strengthen our district's commitment to providing diverse extracurricular options. Let's come together to give our children the chance to pursue their passion for soccer right here in their own schools. Please sign this petition to show your support for bringing middle school soccer to our school district.
