Thank you for signing the petition. It's been a very interesting 36 hours.
Andrew Bolt's column in the News Corp publications goes further than anything we've seen for decades in seeking to destroy the respectful diverse multiethnic community that we are building. It creates fear where none is necessary. It invokes loss of identity when in fact there are many ways to belong and to make a contribution towards a better, fairer Australia.
Of course not everybody sees it this way. There are claims we are trying to censor 'free speech'. I have pointed out that we don't own a media empire or have access to the prime minister, but Bolt, Chris Dore, Michael Miller and Rupert Murdoch do have this power and access.
Instead the petition calls on this enormous powerful media corporation to take responsibility for the dangerous and racist fear-mongering that it published on Thursday. Its commercial advertising partners should take note too. Is it ethical to advertise in a newspaper that gives a platform to Andrew Bolt's xenophobic 'invasion' rants?
