Grey Squirrels have it rough. They are regarded as a pest and an invasive species. The thing is they were brought over by humans, they never had a choice. Not that they are no longer wanted, the government has sanctioned the mass murder of the furry little rodent.

Grey Squirrels are poisoned, bludgeoned, and shot to death. In fact, you have roving groups of volunteers numbering in the thousands going around killing the Grey Squirrels left and right. After 18 years of repeated culling the island of Anglesey, North Wales has driven the Grey Squirrel to extinction. Since 2015 not a single Grey Squirrel can be found on that island. Recently the poor rodents have been accused of damaging trees, so another culling is underway.

It is absurd to blame the Grey Squirrels for all of the tree troubles. Humans cut down more forest and damage more trees than an army of squirrel ever could in a lifetime. The Grey Squirrels deserve to be left in peace not shot up for being a scapegoat. All of the cullings need to stop.
