Metro Link Update: Tallawong to St.Mary's (via Schofields, Marsden Park)Now! Need 10,000 Signatures to be successful!

The North West Sydney region’s growth over the last 10 years has been the highest in Australia, with the highest growth rates seen in Schofields East growing by 960% (22,900 people) and North Kellyville growing by 880%. Reference: Census August 2021; https://www.abs.gov.au/statistics/people/population/regional-population/latest-release

There are also other high-growth suburbs projected in the next 4 years surrounding the North West Sydney region, with the top 3 suburbs predicted in NSW to be Parramatta, Marsden Park and Rouse Hill. https://www.planning.nsw.gov.au/Research-and-Demography/Sydney-Housing-Supply-Forecast/Glossary

New housing developments are projected around the suburbs of Schofields, Tallawong, Marsden Park, Quakers Hill, Box hill, Alex Avenue, Nirimba Fields, Rouse Hill, Kellyville, Riverstone, Vineyard and Mulgrave, which would double the population in this area soon.

With continuous growth in the region and more demand to follow, the rail infrastructure has not met the demands of the people living in these suburbs. The surrounding suburbs on Richmond Road and Windsor Road/Old Windsor Road, Western Sydney Rail line (T1 & T5) from Blacktown to Richmond and Kellyville to Windsor are the most affected by the lack of rail infrastructure and road traffic congestion. Workers (including those travelling to Marsden Park Industrial Precinct), students, and visitors are struggling with long commute times, and service delays and now choose to drive instead, contributing to further road traffic on our already crowded roads.

Though the State Government understands the urgent needs of the people in this region and has spoken on several occasions about the high growth, no definite action can be seen from our leaders. On March 2012, our then Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian (eventually NSW Premier) promised to investigate the development and extension of the metro line. https://www.transport.nsw.gov.au/newsroom-and-events/media-releases/planning-for-future-north-west-sydney-transport-corridor-secured

Over a decade has passed since her promise with no start date set for works to begin.

The State Government have generated plenty of revenue from us, Developers, Builders, New homeowners, and Investors of properties, by way of stamp duty, Toll Road M7 & M5 revenue and other means.

Promises aside, the real action is needed from our government to answer the growing demands of locals in the North-western Sydney region. We need an immediate solution to the long commute times, delays in train services and high road traffic during peak work hours.

The people demand that the Metro line be extended as a priority from Tallawong to Western Line T1 / T5 and help ease the stress of commuting to work, school and shopping. Currently, Metro terminates at a point which is less than 2.5 kms from Schofields station.

Schofields station should be the hub to connect the metro with the western lines T1 and T5, and then the metro should extend to Marsden Park, St Mary's and ultimately to the New Western Sydney Airport.

Days before the State Election, Labor party representatives Warren Kirby and Prue Car said that;

"Labor will allocate an additional $40 million for a business case to extend the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport from St Mary’s to Tallawong.

This final business case will provide the detailed design, economic assessment and cost estimation to inform an investment decision for the construction of this metro extension from St Mary’s to Tallawong”

Let’s all get together and make our voices heard so we can live with dignity under fair living standards!
