Really Metra? 40 emails trumps 4,493 petition signatures? Brian Demski, one of our most active supporters, has crafted this letter that you can cut and paste and email to Metra. This is it, folks--we need your help. Email: metrarail_feedback@metrarr.com By Phone:(312) 322-6777 Mr. Oberman - I am very disappointed to hear you are delaying the pilot program to allow small pets in carriers aboard Metra trains. I ride the Metra and am in support of allowing pets in carriers aboard Metra trains. I am not alone and over 4500 others supporters are also on board as shown by our online petition (https://www.change.org/p/metra-chicago-allow-small-animals-in-carriers-on-metra-trains). All other forms of public transit in the city of Chicago and surrounding suburbs already allow pets in small carriers aboard; Metra is the only exception. Here is CTA's policy: "Only small pets in protective carriers are allowed on CTA buses and trains. Carriers cannot take up seats, seating areas or obstruct pathways on buses, trains or in stations and must be able to be carried on by a single person. To ensure the comfort of others, animals in carriers need to behave in such a way that does not disturb others. CTA reserves the right to remove from CTA vehicles or property any animals (including service animals) which act aggressively or pose a direct threat to others." Airlines allow pets in small carriers to ride in the cabin and Amtrak will be running a pilot program to allow pets in carriers aboard Amtrak lines and that will likely become standard policy soon ( http://www.amtrak.com/carry-on-pet-pilot). Each of these systems successfully transport millions of people each year and do not have issues with allowing pets in carriers. I'd love to see Metra do the same. I strongly encourage you to push forward with the pilot program so I and my fellow supporters can show you that this will work and that it will increase your ridership and encourage more people to use our wonderful public transit systems throughout the Chicagoland area. Sincerely, (put your name here) Pets on Metra
