The Issue

Our social media feeds should reflect what we choose to see.

Today, users can block accounts, hide posts, filter certain comments, and tell algorithms when they’re “not interested.” But there still isn’t a simple, comprehensive way to say: “I don’t want to see content about this topic.”

Maybe it’s a politician or political issue. Maybe it’s a sports team, celebrity, TV show, cryptocurrency, news story, or viral trend you’re simply tired of seeing.

We’re asking Meta to create Mute Topics — a feature across Facebook, Instagram, and Threads that allows users to enter specific names, words, phrases, or topics they don’t want appearing in their feeds.

This isn’t about removing anyone’s content or limiting anyone’s ability to speak. It’s about giving each person more control over their own social media experience.

If Meta’s algorithms can learn what we want to see, users should also be able to tell them what we don’t want to see.

Your feed. Your choice.
