Meta: Add an Anti-AI Filter on Your Platforms

Le problème

Every day, more AI-generated videos and images are appearing in our social media feeds. On Instagram and Facebook, it is increasingly difficult to tell what was created by a real person and what was produced by an algorithm. This shift is happening fast: recent research shows that AI now generates more than half of all new content on the internet — something we’ve never seen before.

For millions of people, social media is a primary source of news. In the United States, about half of adults say they at least sometimes get their news from social media. When AI-generated videos and posts blend seamlessly into these feeds, it becomes harder for the average person to know what to trust.

Join the movement asking Meta to let us filter out content that’s been created by AI.

This isn’t just an annoyance, it’s a challenge to the integrity of public information. AI makes it easy to create fake reports, fake experts, and highly convincing false narratives. These tools can distort reality, mislead voters, and undermine confidence in journalism, institutions, and even the trust we have in one another. As elections approach in countries around the world, the risks to democratic debate and informed decision-making are only growing.

Despite these dangers, Meta often leaves misleading AI content online, even when it spreads widely. Independent monitors have already documented sharp increases in misinformation tied to major political events, and there is little sign that platforms are prepared for the next wave of AI-driven manipulation.

There is, however, a simple step Meta could take: give users the option to filter out AI-generated content entirely.

Pinterest has already implemented a version of this feature, proving that the technology exists and can be offered at the platform level. Allowing users to choose whether they want to see AI-generated posts would help restore trust and give people more control over what appears in their feeds.

We need stronger safeguards for the integrity of online information — and giving users this choice is a meaningful and achievable first move.

If you agree, add your name to ask Meta to introduce an optional anti-AI filter on Instagram and Facebook.
