Thank you so much for signing the Revive Mitcham Eastfields petition. We’ve now reached nearly 950 signatures, which shows just how strongly people feel about better trains, a stronger town centre and properly supported green spaces.
The next step is making sure Merton Council truly listens.
Petitions don’t automatically land on councillors’ desks. What does make a difference is when residents individually email the council to show this isn’t just one person speaking, but hundreds of local voices asking for change.
If you’re able to, please take 2 minutes to send the email below to Merton Council. Even a short message helps. The more emails they receive, the harder it is to ignore what’s happening in Mitcham Eastfields.

Subject: Formal Submission of Local Petition – Revive Mitcham Eastfields (944+ Signatures)
⸻
Dear Merton Council Community Engagement Team,
I am writing to formally submit a local petition titled:
“Revive Mitcham Eastfields – Better Trains, Town Centre & Green Spaces”
The petition has now reached over 940 signatures and continues to grow, representing residents living in and around Mitcham Eastfields (CR4). The full petition can be viewed here:
This petition reflects long-standing and widely shared concerns about the lack of investment and coordination in Mitcham Eastfields at a time of rapid growth. With over 1,500 new homes approved or under construction, residents are increasingly concerned that local infrastructure, transport, retail provision and public spaces are not keeping pace.
The petition calls for:
• Improved train frequency at Mitcham Eastfields, moving from every 30 minutes towards every 15 minutes where feasible and coordinated across operators
• Investment in Mitcham’s town centre to support local businesses, retail, leisure and food options
• Greater support, maintenance and investment in Mitcham Common and surrounding green spaces, which are currently maintained largely by unpaid community volunteers
• Inclusion of Mitcham Eastfields in longer-term transport and regeneration planning discussions
We welcome Merton Council’s recent commitment of £30m towards regenerating Morden town centre, which demonstrates clear ambition for place-based investment. However, residents are increasingly concerned that Mitcham Eastfields is being left behind, despite comparable growth pressures and clear demand for improvement.
Through this submission, we are respectfully requesting:
• Formal acknowledgement of the petition under Merton Council’s Petition Scheme
• Confirmation of next steps and which department(s) will be responsible for responding
• Consideration of a meeting with relevant councillors or officers to discuss the petition’s themes
• Guidance on how this petition may be presented to councillors or at a future council meeting, if appropriate
We believe this petition represents a constructive opportunity for dialogue between residents and the council about the future of Mitcham Eastfields. We would welcome the chance to work collaboratively and contribute positively to any discussions or planning processes that follow.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your acknowledgement and response.
Kind regards,
