Hello Supporters,

A few weeks ago, we posted a report on our Substack about the death of "C1," the Albany Care resident whose case helped prompt the facility's recent Level 5 restriction.

Last week we got word that IDPH has lifted this Level 5 restriction after a period of about three months. Albany Care is now able to accept new admissions.

The work continues. We'll keep reporting facts regarding the quality of care provided at Albany Care. We'll keep reporting about IDPH's monitoring of that care. We'll keep pushing for meaningful reform for Illinois' SMHRF system, so that there are more mechanisms in place to improve and protect the wellbeing of SMHRF residents. And we'll keep pushing for active, consistent, public engagement from the leaders named in this petition.

This morning we published a new piece on the Substack, 74 Pounds. This piece looks into the death of "Ms. S," an Albany Care resident who died at Albany Care in May 2023, between the facility's 2022 and 2025 Level 5 restrictions. Unlike the death of the man known as C1, Ms. S's death didn't get media coverage. It's unclear if IDPH did a detailed investigation of it.

Two years later, Ms. S's story has many unanswered questions. As troubling as the subject matter may be, we hope you'll read it.

As always, thank you for your support, care, and attention. Four months into this campaign, we've experienced progress and setbacks. But we've been consistently encouraged by the care, compassion, and energy of this campaign's supporters. There are 1340 of you now, and we're grateful for you all.

With steady work, community support, and a focus on facts, we continue to believe that real change will happen.

With gratitude and resolve,

The Fitzsimons Neighbors Group
