Dr. Janice Fitzgerald has been a beacon of hope for every Newfoundlander and Labradorian during the COVID-19 pandemic. As Memorial University opens the doors of a brand new core science facility dedicated to innovation, success, and insurmountable trust in science, it only feels right that we name this building in honour of the person who will make a safe return to on-campus studies possible. Dr. Fitzgerald is a symbol of hope, resilience, and professionalism - all things that the Faculty of Science and Memorial University of Newfoundland also stand for. To name this facility after Dr. Fitzgerald would just be the tip of the ice berg for recognizing her compassion and dedication to Newfoundland and Labrador.
