Recently, David Ellefson, the bassist for the multi-platinum, Grammy award-winning Megadeth, was embroiled in an online scandal when private videos were disclosed by a third party. Is Mr. Ellefson guilty of a moral failure? Almost certainly. But his behavior, while objectively wrong, is not appropriate subject matter for public consumption. Despite being a public figure, he should be afforded the opportunity to fail in private like every other person on the planet. While there is indeed a certain ick factor involved there was nevertheless no illegal behavior. And in actual point of fact, this is a matter for him to work out amongst the members of his family and faith community.

In other words, Mr. Ellefson is not the first rockstar to be caught with his pants down. I mean news at 11, right? At worst, Ellefson is guilty of adultery and hypocrisy; does this absolutely deny him a 2nd chance? When Jesus Himself said, "I say to you not seven times, but seven times seven [or seventy sevens]."

This petition exists to encourage Dave Mustaine and Megadeth to reinstate David Ellefson. Let's let them know that we won't be purchasing tickets to the upcoming shows, will return tickets already purchased, and refrain from buying any Megadeth-related merch unless and until Mr. Ellefson is restored to his rightful place as Megadeth's bassist.
