Personal Statement Justin-Ames Gamache, M.Psych. Applicant for Post-Baccalaureate/Professional Study Recognition
I am currently pursuing a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) with a specialization in Educational Technology at the University of Phoenix. My application has been fully accepted, and I am actively enrolled in the program. I began my doctoral studies in 2023 and anticipate completing the program by 2026.
This program builds upon a strong academic foundation and a lifelong dedication to education, psychology, and service. I hold an Associate’s degree in Business Administration, a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies, a Master of Education, and a Master of Science in Psychology (with Distinction). My academic achievements are not only a reflection of personal ambition but a testament to resilience and a profound belief in the transformative power of education.
As the first in my family to graduate from college, my journey through higher education has been deeply personal and purpose-driven. I have dedicated over a decade to supporting learners in both academic and mental health settings. My professional work centers on the intersection of educational psychology and human development, aiming to promote inclusive, emotionally intelligent learning environments for all students. My academic scholarship reflects this commitment, as seen in my writings such as "Mastering the Art of Doctoral Thinking" and "The Psychological Benefits of Changing Your Phone Number."
Pursuing doctoral-level education has allowed me to investigate how identity, belonging, and resilience can be supported through educational technology and mindfulness-based interventions. My dissertation, titled “Reflections of Me: An Autoethnographic Journey into Identity, Culture, and Belonging,” leverages autoethnography and heuristic inquiry to explore my own lived experiences through a scholarly lens. This research not only deepens my personal understanding but aims to contribute meaningfully to the broader fields of educational leadership and mental health support in higher education.
In applying for this recognition, I seek not only validation of my academic path but also support to continue serving as a scholar-practitioner who uplifts marginalized voices, builds community, and fosters environments where learners of all backgrounds can thrive.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely, Justin-Ames Gamache, M.Psych. LinkedIn Profile
