Mental (Brain) Healthcare Patients in Arizona Lose Basic Protections

Mental (Brain) Healthcare Patients in Arizona Lose Basic Protections
The Issue
Recently (Jan/Feb 2020) had my rights blatantly and repeatedly violated at multiple mental healthcare facilities in Maricopa County, Arizona.
My complaints are not being taken seriously. They have been ignored and/or met with dismissive, confusing and/or downright smug (non)-responses.
I VOLUNTARILY admitted myself for inpatient mental (brain) health treatment.....PTSD to be specific. VOLUNTARILY. Drove myself to the facility. Nobody suggested it. Trusted the system to help and have been MIStreated on SO many levels
I was subsequently denied basic patient rights. There is no question about this. I am checking the legality of it all but, also feel as though my human if not civil rights have been disregarded and blatantly disrespected.
Complaints concerning Mental (Brain) Healthcare facilities/treatments in Maricopa County, AZ - are reported to the same agencies doing the licensing and credentialing of these facilities and individuals.
AHCCCS Grievance and Appeals is now looking into it. THEY hold some potential liability. These agencies are essentially charged with “policing” themselves and their co-operative partners, which ultimately, across the board, just mitigates their own liabilities.
Protections for individuals like myself and others, who have been harmed by these mental healthcare facilities/individuals are basically nonexistent. The reporting structure leads one back to the parent company or agency who has authorized the facility, agency or person to work for them!
Although I tried, I could NOT file a complaint with the Office of Human Rights. Mental healthcare patients are apparently not afforded this level of protection.
Its been literally 3 weeks of pounding the pavement, trying to get someone/anyone to take this seriously.
The goal is systemic change. I have uncovered A LOT of things that need to be changed.
THE COMMUNITY SHOULD BE FRIGHTENED AND OUTRAGED.
DO NOT THINK THAT THIS CAN’T HAPPEN TO YOU OR A LOVED ONE.
