CLOSE RAMSEY CREEK PARK BEACH

CLOSE RAMSEY CREEK PARK BEACH
The Issue
We, the residents of Cornelius and Meckleburg County, NC undersigned, request the closure of Ramsey Creek Park Swim Beach immediately because no study about local impact has been done, which leads to its poor planning, negative impact on the neighborhood and costly bandage fix.
Lack of infrastructure:
- 1.0 Mile Long Dead End Rd. with no other access: One way In/Out = Our Lifeline. Will affect safety of everyone stuck on Nantz Rd. or in park should an emergency occur. Never designed/Not Capable of handling thousands of people
- Not enough parking spaces - Approx. 70 spots in Lower Parking Lot.
Private nuisance:
- Constant traffic on Nantz to Enter/Exit park as well as ”after hour entries”
- Side streets impacted with mis-turns/wrong turns/”parking seekers”
- Large city buses on small road running every 15 minute: Massive impact on homes facing Nantz and general traffic holdups.
- Trespassing, unwanted parking in neighborhood; negatively impact local residents’ quality of life and property value.
- Large contributor to excess congestion & delays on Catawba Ave.
Water quality and health concern:
- Beach capacity is advertised 500, swim area is about 1/3 acre, so each person has very limited space;
- Only 8 restrooms on site.
Excessive tax dollars wasted:
- Close to $500,000 of our tax money needed to support the beach per season according to current Park&Rec Plan: ~$300,000 in police overtime, $44,000 in bus leasing plus extra staff (lifeguards, parking attendants, rangers…) and other costs.
The county needed a $425,000 bond money to build the beach. How much more we need to pay every year to maintain this beach?
