Save plastics in meal delivery kits from ending up in landfill!
The issue
Tell meal preparation delivery companies to collect and reuse their own packaging and help save the planet!
Keep tons of plastics from going into landfills and oceans. Reduce manufacturing of more boxes.
Attention: HelloFresh, MarleySpoon, EveryPlate, and many others!
I love ordering meal preparation kits that provide great new recipes I've never tried before with the right amount of ingredients to avoid waste. However, I was really horrified by all the used boxes, the ice packs and cooler bags accumulating in my freezer/pantry which are now no longer collected by REDcycle. These plastics will end up in landfill!
These items should be reused by the company rather than recycled by the customers. Even when recycling is an option, let's not forget that recycling comes with water and energy costs as well! Re-use before recycling!
Tell these meal preparation delivery businesses they should collect their boxes, cooler bags, ice packs, and any other packaging or items they can reuse, upon delivering your next order.
A handful of smaller companies already do this, and there is no reason why these big companies cannot do the same. Upon collection, they should reuse these items.
Yes, they will need to clean the items very well for food hygiene purposes. But it is still a win-win-win.
Win for the business - they will save money by not continuously purchasing new items (even if these are made from recycled materials)
Win for the customers - save customers' valuable time and storage space by not requiring us to flatten boxes, store the cooler bags, empty the ice packs, and build up so much plastic waste no longer collected by REDcycle in our homes and communities
Win for the planet - reduce recycling and consumption of non-renewable resources and save tons of plastics from ending up in landfill
