"What is Love Anyway?", is just one of the 11 lessons our district taught our 5th grade (10 and 11 year old children). Pretty sure our kids will figure out that question without any help from our district lesson plans. After all we have been doing that since the beginning of time! Please continue to share our petition with others who you know and are residence of our district. The more signatures the better! Remember to also vote tomorrow and note who on the ballot is running. Yes, one of our board members is running for another position. Elections should have consequences for failure to protect our youngest students. Remember sexuality education for TK-6th grade is not mandated by the state. The district could simply choose to not teach anything at all, or only teach a few of the subjects. It's their choice, if they choose to do it, and/or they could teach all of the content. Again, it's their choice. The CA State Laws allow for choice and the content must be age appropriate by law. In fact the law says, "it shall be age appropriate". We are a local control district, the choice to choose to teach which lessons, is a choice by our board of education and therefore, the laws allow for decisions about sexuality education to be made by the district for elementary school aged children. Sexuality education is only mandated once in middle school and once in high school. It's the district choice. However, it would be advisable to listen to parents. We are the ultimate decision makers, not our board. And elections do have consequences! After all, AS PARENTS OUR VOICES MATTER MOST!
*****PS Please make sure to read the descriptions of the lesson plan in the posted picture. And, also look at the bottom of the petition for the link to all of the lessons planned and a link to the summaries for each of the lessons they have planned for our children.***** INFORMATION IS POWER. THE POWER TO CHOOSE!
