Our district admitted during the "parent night presentation", the sexuality education material was "designated as 7th grade, nationally taught in 7th grade, but they had to teach it anyway to 5th graders (10 and 11 year old children), because the CA Ed Code and Laws forced them to do it"! Then later during board meeting in April, the district superintendent admit she made a mistake and it was never brought before the board, but they were forced to teach this material, because the educational standards forced them to teach it! The education standards (which are not laws) do not force our district to teach this inappropriate material, and the CA Ed Codes and Laws do not force our district to teach this material either. We are a local control district. Instead, the laws allow districts to choose what they teach, or teach nothing at all in K-6th grade/elementary age school kids for sexuality education. This material, as a point of fact, was never brought before the board, or the public/parents, for review and/or a vote. They implemented this material without due process or oversight. Shame on our district board members and superintendent!
