Israel Insults God

Blemished Sacrifices  

1:6 ‘’A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, where is the honor due me? If I am a master, where is the respect due me?’’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘’It is you, O priests, who show contempt for my name. 

Lev. 20:9 

‘’ ‘If anyone curses his father or mother, he must be put to death. He has cursed his father or his mother, and his blood will be on his own head. 

Deut. 27:16 

‘’Cursed is the man who dishonors his father or his mother.’’ 

Gen. 31:35 

Rachel said to her father, ‘’Don’t be angry, my lord, that I cannot stand up in your presence; I’m having my period.’’ So he searched but could not find the household gods. 

Ex. 20:12 

‘’Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you. 

Matt. 15:4 

For God said, ‘Honor your father and mother’a and ‘Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.’’b Then all the people shall say, ‘’Amen!’’

‘’Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? ‘’But you ask, ‘ How have we shown contempt for your name?’

1:7 ‘’You place defiled food on my altar. 

Lev. 21:6 

They must be holy to their God and must not profane the name of their God. Because they present the offerings made to the Lord by fire, the food of their God, they are to be holy. ‘’But you ask, ‘How have we defiled you?’ ‘‘By saying that the Lord’s table is contemptible.

1:8 When you bring blind animals for sacrifice, is that not wrong? When you sacrifice crippled for diseased animals, is that not wrong? Try offering them to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you?’’ says the Lord Almighty. 

Lev. 1:3 

‘’ ‘If the offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he is to offer a male without defect. He must present it at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting so that ita will be acceptable to the Lord.

1:9 ‘’Now implore God to be gracious to us. With such offerings from your hands, will he accept you?’’--says the Lord Almighty. 

Lev. 23:33-44 

The Lord said to Moses, ‘’Say to the Israelites: ‘On the fifteenth day of the seventh month the Lord’s Feast of Tabernacles begins, and it lasts for seven days. The first day is a sacred assembly; do no regular work. For seven days present offerings made to the Lord by fire, and on the eighth day hold a sacred assembly and present an offering made to the Lord by fire. It is the closing assembly; do no regular work. 

Ex. 23:16 

‘’Celebrate the Feast of the Harvest with the firstfruits of the crops you sow in your field. ‘’Celebrate the Feast of Ingathering at the end of the year, when you gather in your crops from the field. 

Ex. 34:22 

‘’Celebrate the Feast of Weeks with the firstfruits of the wheat harvest, and the Feast of Ingathering at the turn of the year.a; 

Deut. 16:13
