The Issue

For more than 25 years, a small animal rescue in McLoud has taken in dogs and cats no one else would help. Abused, neglected, abandoned animals were given safety, care, and a chance to live.

Now, more than 50 dogs are at risk of being euthanized through no fault of their own.

The rescue run by Patti and Robert Forehand is facing foreclosure on the home where these animals live. If the property is lost, the animals could be seized, and local authorities have indicated euthanasia is likely due to lack of placement options. These animals are not dangerous, neglected, or unwanted. They are simply running out of time.

This is an emergency animal welfare issue.

Local governments routinely intervene to protect animals during fires, floods, and disasters. A housing crisis that could result in the mass euthanasia of rescued animals deserves the same urgency and coordination. These dogs should not lose their lives because of a legal or financial process that can be paused, redirected, or mitigated.

This petition calls on McLoud city officials, the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office, and local animal control authorities to take immediate action to protect these animals. That includes working with the rescue to prevent seizure, coordinating emergency foster or shelter placements if needed, and ensuring no animals are euthanized simply because the rescue lost its property.

The community should not wake up to learn that dozens of healthy, rescued dogs were put down when alternatives were possible.

Animal lovers believe rescue should never end in a preventable tragedy. These animals were saved once. They deserve protection now.

If you believe local officials have a responsibility to step in and protect vulnerable animals in crisis, please add your name and urge McLoud leaders to act immediately.
