Demand McGill University adopt a mandatory COVID-19 vaccine requirement for all on campus

The Issue

On Tuesday, August 10th 2021, the University of Ottawa (UOttawa) Executive Committee of the Board of Governors announced that all UOttawa students, faculty, staff, and visitors who intend to access their campus will require proof of vaccination against COVID-19.

We call on the McGill University Executive Committee of the Board of Governors to institute a mandatory vaccine requirement on McGill University campuses (downtown and Macdonald) for all students, faculty, staff and visitors. This requirement may make use of the provincial COVID-19 vaccine passport system being implemented by the Government of Quebec on September 1st, 2021.

The below is drawn in full or in part from UOttawa's mandatory COVID-19 vaccination mandate.

WHEREAS:

  1. "We believe the health of our community comes first, and this is a responsibility for all of us to share";
  2. "[There exist] ongoing risks posed by COVID-19 and its dangerous variants";
  3. "At the dawn of the fourth wave, it is even more important to have everybody vaccinated";
  4. "Vaccines remain our best defense against COVID-19 and variants";
  5. "The requirement to wear a mask inside our buildings still stands. All public health guidelines such as wearing a mask, social distancing, and frequent hand washing remain in effect";
  6. "Those who remain unvaccinated and who must access campus will have to follow additional strict health protocols such as: frequent testing, wearing masks and other PPE, if necessary, as well as other possible measures."
