Hey guys, we're still out there fighting for this. In some ways we are closer than before. The COB expects their audit of the existing network to be done in Q1.They refuse to tell us if they will make the information public when the report is done. So if they will make the information taken on a public network public.
They are working on a Dig Once Policy, but seem to be refusing to incorporate most of the info they've received from other experts into it. Still, at least they've taken the info. Right now, their Dig Once draft over-quotes Mount Vernon install costs by 10 times, Phoenix by 15 times... the list goes on, but at least they're working on one. The goal remains, to get more signatures and let them know that wireless alone is NOT a complete replacement for real infrastructure.Wireless and fiber are complimentary technologies, not competing ones. Modern wireless networks need fiber to work correctly anyway, and there is no substitute for real fiber infrastructure and choice.
I've linked to my latest article, from my most recent meeting. It was supposed to be about the existing network but branched out as well in some odd ways. Still, it was informative. A Dig Once policy is still more important than the existing network, but it's obvious that the existing network can do a lot more than it is for us. It certainly is for AT&T and probably Verizon in the near future. Two of the entities allowed to lease public resources, while the citizens that paid for the network continue to wait.
