Hello, sorry I haven't sent an update in a while. The COB is finally talking with us about having a proper meeting, including the council in an open session, after 2 years. Hopefully, this will actually happen. In the meantime, I wanted to pass along this article about how Verizon throttles data even in the most critical of situations. AT&T, the owner of the FirstNet system that is being just about forced on our FirstResponders in every state by the FCC, also is against net-neutrality. So, in essence, our first responders need updated, standardized services, but are getting them at the expense of open communications and from companies like AT&T and Verizon, who may throttle their communications and hold the keys to the communications. Why do they throttle in the first place? Well, there are many bad reasons.  Part of what we have learned over a long period of time is that it is because they always do a half-assed job with infrastructure and want to charge you the highest rate for everything. Even if you're a public servant. Or at least, charge the tax payers the highest rates on your behalf. The more fiber you have, the more reliable your networks are. That means that public fiber is the best way to go for supporting emergency services as well. Oh and for making sure that our responders have the best communications systems available, with no throttling, when there is a problem. It can also assure that the communications we are getting are open and accessible to the public who are paying for the services to being with.
