Protect PEC's Economy, Businesses, Jobs and Way of Life
Why this petition matters
PEC Council is studying how to manage the use of STAs (short term accommodations) as tourist accommodations, with options that include their elimination.
According to Council's own sources:
- Tourism accounts for 30 to 40% of all jobs in PEC (Shire Hall internal report, "Making the Case for Tourism", 3-21)
- STAs account for 80%+ of tourist roofed accommodations
- The average overnight visitor spends $406/day (~4x day trippers) and tourists spend $189 MILLION locally per year (Shire Hall internal report, "Making the Case for Tourism", 3-21)
- Reduction in STAs will not lead to more affordable housing as most would be transferred to "second home status" (S H O R T - T E R M ACCOMMODATIONS IN PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY" David Wachsmuth, McGill, 10/11/21)
Help us protect the wonderful lifestyle we all love here in PEC (restaurants, wineries, arts etc.) and the livelihoods of our friends, families and local business owners.
Tell Council to NOT decrease the number of licensed STAs and the critical role they play in ensuring our economy and way of life.

I support our economy and I DO NOT want the number of licensed STAs to decrease, as I believe they play a critical role in the quality of life here in PEC.
I DO NOT want to see local businesses close and fellow residents lose their jobs.
