Council must compel remediation of destruction on Sugarloaf

The Issue

  • Contrary to the Township tree preservation by-law owner Joe Azouri has cleared all trees and vegetation from the shoreline to the top of Sugarloaf Island and all along the top of the island
  • The horrific destruction is a blight on Lake Joseph that impacts all cottagers who enjoy the natural beauty of Muskoka
  • As ratepayers we depend on The Mayor and Township Council to protect the natural beauty of Muskoka for all to enjoy
  • If Azouri is not compelled to fully remediate his destruction others will feel empowered to ignore by-laws designed to protect Muskoka for future generations
  • It will take many years for re-forestation of the island to return the island to its original beauty, so Azouri's building permit(s) should be revoked until complete remediation is complete
  • Council must also force Azouri to remove the illegal floating jet ski dock that is in excess of what Township by-laws allow
