Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was yesterday. In this time and day, we still have monuments and ceremonies for people who were the exact opposite of MLK. On Sunday, the Brownsville Historical Association and the Sons of Confederate Veterans hosted Confederate Heroes Day. They insist on honoring the Confederacy under the guise of honor and education. I would much rather honor the local Confederate soldiers who served than Jefferson Davis and everything he stood for. By celebrating this "holiday" right before MLK Day, what is the City of Brownsville saying to the rest of the nation?
Our cause has been picked up by several media outlets.
Here is the CBS 4 News clip of my interview:

The Brownsville Herald also picked up the story:

Several concerned citizens took it upon themselves to celebrate and honor MLK yesterday. We hosted several elected officials and current candidates for local office at Washington Park. We were also available to register new voters. A group hosted a clean up around the same time and another one hosted an evening event in honor of MLK. The city and historical museums refuse to honor MLK. The Brownsville Independent School District also held classes on Monday.
Racist messages keep pouring in from all over the USA. It's sad to know that many people see fellow human beings as inferiors. I have faith that millennials will continue taking our country in the right direction.
Thank you
