Traffic Congestion getting out of Thornton has become a nightmare.

Nowhere is it worse than getting to and from the New England Highway along Weakleys Drive and Thornton Road.

Maitland is the fastest growing regional city in NSW with 79,340 residents (a 14.6% increase since 2011), and with over 90,000 residents expected to call Maitland home by 2023.

Road Capacity for traffic to get through Thornton to get to the arterial roads like the M1 and New England Highway has not been increased in decades and has not kept up with the increase in numbers in Estates like Wirraway, Thornton North, Chisolm, Harvey, Berry Park and Sophia Waters. Residents of these areas are now all wanting to pass through Thornton to get to the new England Highway or the M1.

A set of traffic lights at Glenroy St & Railway Avenue intersection will not fix these problems. We need some real solutions, even if Maitland Council needs to work with Other Councils and State Government to look at additional roads or widening roads.

Please provide a real plan and not just stop gap measures to address the traffic that is only going to get worse as new land developments continue to happen and more traffic will be wanting to get through.
