Briars Community Mental Health & Wellness Compensation

Briars Community Mental Health & Wellness Compensation
The Issue
Good day, I live in North Vancouver and moved to our current neighbourhood, central Lonsdale, in 2014. We wanted to be closer to the mountains and all that NV has to offer. I love my neighbourhood. I work full time and pay my taxes.
Within the first year of living at the Briars Apartments a massive development project started, half of an entire block was demolished at the corner of Lonsdale and 13th. Construction began on a twin tower complex "Centreview" at 120 East 13th St. 6 days a week starting at 7am for 2 years. Once "Centreview" finished the opposite corner was demolished to build the 108 West 13th St. high-rise complex called the "Lonsdale", for another 2 years. When that finished demolition and construction started on 129 East 12th St. the "Victoria" for at least a year and a half. Right after it was finished, demolition began at 125-145 East 13th St. right across the alley from our balcony. Once again, 6 days a week starting at 7am. We have been absolutely surrounded by construction no more than half a block away for 11+ years. There are residents of our building that have also endured the construction of 1230 Lonsdale Ave. the "Blue Shore Financial" building, that was just before my time at the Briars.
So that means that the elderly people in my building have lived though almost thirteen + years of construction half a block away from their windows and balconies. Constant, low vibration rumbling, metal and concrete smashing, pile driving massive pillars into the ground that shakes the room, dust, diesel fumes as soon as you open your window, construction workers swearing and yelling at each other at the crack of dawn (ahhh radios?). This would all be fine if most of us weren't working from home during the COVID lockdowns. My goal in the morning is to get out as soon as possible, even if it's a day off from work and we just want to relax. Forget about it. I've even had to rent an additional studio space so I could work.
Yes we could move, but where? Our rent would go up $1000 the second we move out. So that means moving to a "better situation" is out of our price range. All the new buildings are charging 2.5k+ for a 1 bedroom.
I would like to see the 5+ year residents of the Briars Apartments receive compensation, for mental duress and loss of reasonable peace during the time of construction. Subsidized by the developers and The City of North Vancouver. The living situation at central Lonsdale is unacceptable. The fact that public officials, developers, architects and construction workers think it's ok to make peoples lives hell is unacceptable. This is the line.
Who's building do you think is next to go?
Please sign this petition to show your support for the residents of the Briars and surrounding neighbours. I have a meeting with the City of North Vancouver Mayor's Office in May 2025 and would like to share your concerns and thoughts. Also, share to your social media and support networks.
Thank you.
