Petition updateMayor Tory: Declare Homelessness An Emergency To Prevent More Deaths And Suffering
"Tell them that we're dying."

Shelter and Housing Justice Network

Dec 8, 2019
These were the words of Nancy Baker, a woman who had been homeless on and off for many years. She was the first woman to move into Toronto's waterfront Tent City. She was an activist and fought for shelter and housing for others, even after she got housing.
Every month, for the last 20 years, Toronto adds the names of people who died while homeless to this memorial at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Toronto. The names no longer fit so a lever, juke box like system was designed to be able to flip the pages. Today there are 982 names on the pages.
On Tuesday December 10 at noon more names will be added.
Remind Mayor Tory and City Council that people continue to die and they could alleviate this emergency.
