We are in the days of police brutality and police misconduct. The Greeley Police Department is not an exception to this.

Everybody is familiar with the $200,000 settlement, of TAXPAYER money, that was awarded due to one incident of police misconduct. The Police Department is the highest awarded department taking up 10% of the City budget, our TAXPAYER money. The department taking the next highest portion of our taxpayer money is the water department coming in just under 8%, which is justified. Should we the citizens of Greeley have to foot the bill for future police misconduct?

Attempts have been made for our elected officials to make an initiative to work with the community and the police department to initiate Criminal Justice Reform on the local level. Request have been met with silence. Councilmember Tommy Butler has been the only Councilmember to move for reform. His vote only accounts for one, there has been no other support thrown behind Mr. Butler or any discussion of reform from the other members of council (that I am aware of).

We call on our elected officials to take initiative and to listen to your constituents. 

This is the change we would like to see.

Just as all other professionals including but not limited to; Doctors, Lawyers, small business owners, contractors, etc.  We need for all police officers to carry their very own liability insurance. This would give the officer a sense of accountability, taking responsibility for their actions. This would take away taxpayer ramifications. We would not have to foot the bill.

Any officer that does not wear or turns off their bodycam is immediately fired, including detectives. All footage needs to be released to the public immediately on demand. This promotes transparency, if there is nothing to hide this request should not be one to ponder over.

The 19th judicial District CIRT team has no business investigating police misconduct and officer involved shootings in our city. Law enforcement investigating law enforcement doesn't fit in the criminal justice system. Citizens do not investigate other citizen allegations. There needs to be a different team formation composed of all walks of life. Some type of Citizen advisory board and or Jury trials. Any other ideas are welcome.

Militarizing our police should not be a goal that the department has. Unnecessary purchases of military equipment should not be a part of the police department culture. There is no proof that such purchases make the community safer, this promotes the exact opposite.

We need to abolish our Gang Unit. The fact that there is a unit dedicated to re-arresting previous offenders is only adding to the incarceration rates we see today. This may very well lead to a life as a career criminal due to the ramifications of being guilty before proven innocent (you heard that right.) One is judged by a life where quite possibly they had no other choice and gang unit classification does not give these individuals a fighting chance once they are rehabilitated into our community. These individuals are treated differently at a traffic stop or contact point. All allegations need to be treated the same and need to follow the current, broken, established system. Singling a specific group out will only add flames to the fire once these individuals are reintegrated into our city (which is pretty fast because of over incarceration rates.). This contributes to the "cycle". This is promoting this behavior rather than reducing it. If a police officer does the same job they're doing with out the "Gang Unit" title gang crime rates will continue to decrease, this is not 2001.

There is an opportunity for budget cuts one of the biggest to throw your support behind is instead of buying a Tahoe (Cheapest Civilian Tahoe has an average price of $49,000.00) there could be an opportunity for the police department to purchase vehicles with a lower cost to the taxpayer and with better gas mileage. 

We need more Latino officers. The Latino community is a great portion of this great city. The Greeley Police department needs to hire, recruit, promote and motivate more Latino Officers. This will help officers to relate to the community. This will reduce the jaded feeling of a non-Latino officers patrolling certain sectors of the city, which can reduce "crime".

Please take our petition seriously lets hold our police department accountable. Lets give this Criminal Justice Reform a push. We as the citizens need to mitigate the risk that OUR police department may be taking. It starts at the local level. #CriminalJusticeReform #NoMorePoliceMisconduct

Estamos en los días de la brutalidad policial y la mala conducta policial. El Departamento de Policía de Greeley no es una excepción a esto.

Todo el mundo está familiarizado con el acuerdo de $ 200,000, de dinero del CONTRIBUYENTE, que se otorgó debido a un incidente de mala conducta policial. Este es el cambio que nos gustaría ver.

Al igual que todos los demás profesionales, incluidos, entre otros; Médicos, abogados, propietarios de pequeñas empresas, contratistas, etc. Necesitamos que todos los agentes de policía tengan su propio seguro de responsabilidad civil. Esto le daría al oficial un sentido de responsabilidad, asumiendo la responsabilidad de sus acciones. Esto eliminaría las ramificaciones de los contribuyentes. No tendríamos que pagar la factura.

Cualquier oficial que no use o apague su cámara corporal es despedido inmediatamente, incluidos los detectives. Todas las imágenes deben ser lanzadas al público inmediatamente a pedido. El equipo CIRT del 19º Distrito judicial no tiene por qué investigar la conducta indebida de la policía y los disparos de agentes implicados en nuestra ciudad. La aplicación de la ley que investiga a la aplicación de la ley no encaja en el sistema de justicia penal. Los ciudadanos no investigan las acusaciones de otros ciudadanos. Es necesario que haya una formación de equipo diferente compuesta por todos los ámbitos de la vida. Algún tipo de junta asesora ciudadana y / o juicios con jurado. Otras ideas son bienvenidas.

Militarizar nuestra policía no debería ser un objetivo del departamento. Las compras innecesarias de equipo militar no deben ser parte de la cultura del departamento de policía. No hay pruebas de que tales compras hagan a la comunidad más segura, esto promueve exactamente lo contrario.

Necesitamos abolir nuestra Unidad de Pandillas. El hecho de que haya una unidad dedicada a volver a arrestar a los infractores anteriores solo se suma a las tasas de encarcelamiento que vemos hoy. Esto muy bien puede llevar a una vida como delincuente de carrera debido a las ramificaciones de ser culpable antes de que se demuestre su inocencia (lo escuchaste bien). Uno es juzgado por una vida en la que muy posiblemente no tenían otra opción y la clasificación de unidad de pandillas no da estas personas tienen la oportunidad de luchar una vez que se rehabiliten en nuestra comunidad. Estas personas reciben un trato diferente en una parada de tráfico o en un punto de contacto. Todas las acusaciones deben tratarse de la misma manera y deben seguir el sistema actual, roto y establecido. Seleccionar a un grupo específico solo agregará llamas al fuego una vez que estas personas se reintegren a nuestra ciudad (lo cual es bastante rápido debido a las tasas de encarcelamiento excesivas). Esto contribuye al "ciclo". Esto promueve este comportamiento en lugar de reducirlo. Existe la oportunidad de recortes presupuestarios, uno de los más importantes para apoyar es en lugar de comprar un Tahoe (el Tahoe civil más barato tiene un precio promedio de $ 49,000.00), podría haber una oportunidad para que el departamento de policía compre vehículos con un costo menor para el contribuyente y con mejor millaje de gasolina.

Necesitamos más oficiales latinos. La comunidad latina es una gran parte de esta gran ciudad.
