Jackson TN desperately needs a new updated skate park. Muse Skate Park is full of gravel, rocks, sand, glass, and plants growing through the ground. Its now a hazard to even perform any level of extreme sports there.

I'd like the city to look into skate grants for help building a new skate park. With the support of the people of Jackson and West TN I believe we can start the push for a new skate park.

I'd like to look into the new skate park being located in either Bemis by the Splash Pad, Liberty Garden Park & Arboretum, near one of the Three Way parks, or near the Jackson Ballpark.

We need to influence the city council, the mayor, and the city of Jackson in order to get the ball rolling.

Skateboarding is now an Olympic Sport too as its popularity soars. With your signature we are beginning to gain awareness that extreme sports riders and regular people both want a SAFE skate spot for their kids to perform these extreme sports.

Muse Park is no longer a viable option for a skatepark. More recently another victim fell to gun violence at Muse Park so I no longer will take my daughter there.

The benefits of a new SAFE skatepark would be

1. Skateparks reduce illicit behavior.

2. Skateparks provide a safe environment for skateboarding.

3. Skateparks reduce damage to private property.

4. Skateboarding has significant Physical and Mental health benefits.

5. Skateparks have a positive economic impact.

Latest Skateboard Injury Statistics

1. The number of skateboarder deaths between 2011 and 2015 in the U.S. was 147 and almost all of these happened on the road. (Source: Journal of Transport and Health)

2. These fatality rates are the same as those for pedestrians. (Source: pedestrian & traffic fatalities, Department of Transportation, 2008 – 2017)

3. Skateboarders travel at a slower speed than cyclists, but three times faster than pedestrians.

4. 125,145 skateboarder injuries were attended to in the emergency departments of hospitals in 2015, according to the National Safety Council.

5. According to the 2017 statistics issued by Injury Facts in 2017, almost half of these injuries involved the age groups 14 – 24.

6. Only about 5% of skateboarding injuries are severe and most of these occur from an accident involving a vehicle.
