Petition updateSo much for bike lanes. What about Vancouver's stupid windows. Restore sanity to City HallLiving In A Banana Republic

In my previous update I wrote about the 3-inch windows dictated by a building code passed by Vancouver City Council. Vancouver is the only municipality that can pass its own building code because the Provincial Government has empowered it. After I saw one of the installed suites where the tenant was suffocating for want of fresh air, I decided to take the matter before a judge of the BC Supreme Court. I asked the landlord for time to get a ruling, but he refused it saying he wants to stick with the schedule. The Residential Tenancy Branch told me I'd be in my rights to refuse to cooperate and deny entry to my suite for the installation on grounds that the purpose of entry was unreasonable. Spencer Herbert MLA's office gave me the same advice and recommended that I send the landlord an email to this effect. Guess what happened after I sent this email, and remember that we're supposed to be living in Canada and not a banana republic in Central America. An hour after I sent the email the landlord broke the lock and forced entry into my suite. I called the police. Bless the officers of Vancouver Police Department. They arrived minutes after I called 911. Very professional, very caring. If there's a department in the City of Vancouver doing its job, it's VPD. We need more police officers and fewer bureaucrats getting paid to loaf around.Unfortunately the police was only there to prevent possible violence, and keep the peace. They told me, as I expected, that they cannot interfere in a civil dispute. They did their best, however, to lessen the animosity between us. If you open your legs you won't feel the pain. That's how the system works in the Banana Republic of British Columbia.Tomorrow I say goodbye to fresh air with my 3-inch windows, compliments of City Council. Screw everyone for the sake of a few, that's municipal politics in Vancouver, not to mention the useless provincial laws and kangaroo administrative tribunals purporting to protect tenant rights in this banana republic. It is obvious that the provincial government is failing to protect the sanctity of our homes while the City passes bylaws that trample upon our individual rights. It's time for a City Ombudsman's Office to fill in the blanks.
