The other day I was walking on Beach Avenue when I heard a man scream and the howling of a dog in pain. A cyclist had hit a tiny dog that the man was walking on the sidewalk. The man said "Why didn't you stop?" The cyclist retorted, "Why don't you carry the dog in your hands?". I didn't stay at the scene to see what happened between them. 3 months ago I was walking on the sidewalk on Burrard when I was suddenly hit from behind by a bicycle. The musclebound cyclist started to attack me physically and verbally, mixed with gibberish, which indicated he was either insane or on drugs. He wasn't using the protected bike lane running parallel to the sidewalk. He disappeared when passersby offered to help and called the police. I was shocked by the randomness of this unprovoked attack in broad daylight on one of the busiest streets of the city. Is Vancouver filling up with thugs and drug addicts on wheels? Should cyclists be regulated? You can vote in a simple poll on our website's home page, link below. If the votes are substantially in the affirmative, I will send this to the Attorney General with a request for action.
