Protect the Trail of Two Cities

The Issue

The Rogers City Master Street Plan proposes construction of a collector road segment aligned with Oak Street, between 52nd Street and Dodson, which would carry a relatively high volume of vehicle traffic racing through an area that has never before had a road.

The proposed road would destroy a beautiful wooded area that is currently a refuge for wildlife (eagles, hawks, cranes, ducks, geese, deer, and black squirrels, among others), a sanctuary from city hustle and bustle for people, and a treasured path for Rogers and Bentonville walkers and bicyclists along the Trail of Two Cities.  Road construction would require clear-cutting a unique wooded area for this part of Rogers and a significant realignment of the existing recreation trail, decreasing safety for trail users who now would have to walk or bike in close proximity to cars, breathing in the pollutants contained in auto exhaust.

This road would reduce the quality of life and health for area residents through increased air, noise, and light pollution.  The asphalting of such a large hilly area would significantly increase runoff and require costly water remediation measures to ensure the proposed road does not damage property that is down-hill and down-stream.

We live along the south side of the Trail of Two Cities and this proposed road – our dog may have barked a greeting to you as you passed.  We are avid trail users and see how many people enjoy using this beautiful segment of the trail every day.  We thought you would want to know about this proposed road so you can join us in opposing such a drastic change to a unique and beautiful spot in the heart of the Rogers – Bentonville metro area.

This proposed new road would destroy the environment, endanger the health of residents, and be an unnecessary burden for taxpayers.  Please support removing this road segment from the Rogers City masterplan.
