Keep La Verne Strong, STOP Walmart's Plan to Open a Store on Foothill Boulevard!

The Issue

The many resdients who are proud to call  La Verne home do so in part because our city has been able to maintain a unique charcater and sense of community by fostering an economic climate that promotes diverse, independent local businesses rather than numerous big box national chain stores like Walmart.

ALLOWING WALMART TO INVADE OUR NEIGHBORHOOD IS SIMPLY THE WRONG KIND OF GROWTH FOR OUR COMMUNITY

  • Walmart has submitted an application to build a 40,000 square foot Walmart neighborhood market at 1375 Foothill Blvd- site of the former Stein Mart.Walmart has been trying to break into the city of La Verne’s business market for years and their neighborhood market concept is simply Walmart getting their foot into our neighborhood door. More Walmarts will follow along with the traffic, public safety concerns, low wages and poor customer service that follow wherever they go!

  • There are already FIVE (5) full service grocery stores and several famers’ markets within a 3 mile or less radius of the proposed Walmart. As the closing of the Stein Mart proved, this area is already saturated with grocery stores, do we really need or want another grocery store?

  • A Walmart market will attract many people from outside our immediate community; this increases our chances of being impacted by crime, noise, and major traffic delays. All of this will impact our property values and quality of life!

  • The 40,000 square foot Walmart market will attract thousands of new daily car trips through our neighborhood bringing traffic on Foothill Blvd., Wheeler Ave. and Hwy. 210 to a standstill.

Please join with your neighbors, residents and merchants in signing our petition and demanding that the city council Keep La Verne strong by saying NO to a Walmart on Foothill Boulevard! This is about preserving our quality of life and reputation. We deserve and want businesses that better meet the needs and character of our community- not a Walmart.
