Across the country, cities have been making masks mandatory on public transit to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Masks have been recommended as an effective way to protect front line workers who operate and use public transit. We owe it to our front line workers to protect them.

So far, Victoria, Vancouver (all of BC Transit), Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Regina, Toronto (TTC & GO), Montreal, Ottawa, Halifax, Hamilton, Quebec City, Kitchener, Waterloo, London, Oshawa (Durham, St. Catharines- Niagara Falls and many other cities have brought in a municipal by-law requiring masks on public transit.

Winnipeg is the last city over 150,000 to not yet have mandatory masks on public transit. While we have recommended mask use, the usage of masks on transit remains mixed. We need to see civic leadership from Mayor Brian Bowman and Winnipeg City Council to protect our front line workers, transit operators and students who rely on public transit.

As winter comes, people will rely more on public transit to get them to work and school. We need to protect them and to do everything we can to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Please sign to protect our community!
