President Trump’s proposal for a federal takeover of Washington, D.C., has gained congressional support and must be taken seriously. Mayor Muriel Bowser’s weak response—relying on incomplete data and outdated statistics—has contributed to this unfortunate reality.
As a candidate for the Democratic nomination for mayor of the District of Columbia, I assure President Trump, Congress, and the people of D.C. that I will take immediate and decisive action to restore safety, accountability, and prosperity in our city. My first executive steps will include:
Ending D.C.'s "Sanctuary City" Status – I will work with Customs and Border Protection Director Tom Homan to reform our criminal justice system. No more city funds will be wasted on housing illegal immigrants in luxury hotels while our residents suffer.
Addressing Homelessness with Urgency – I will introduce emergency legislation making public homelessness in D.C. illegal, in compliance with the Supreme Court ruling City of Grants Pass v. Johnson. The Departments of Health and Behavioral Health will conduct a comprehensive assessment of the homeless population, using biometric identification for accurate tracking and targeted treatment programs.
Auditing Every City Agency – I will work with the Department of Government Ethics (DOGE) to launch a full-scale audit of all D.C. government agencies to eliminate fraud, inefficiency, and mismanagement.
Creating Real Economic Opportunity – My administration will dismantle the permanent underclass fostered by Bowser and past leadership. I will ensure every D.C. resident has access to employment, eliminating the cycles of poverty and crime that plague our communities.
Lowering Crime Immediately – By enforcing strict policies on crime and homelessness while expanding job opportunities, we will reduce crime rates within my first year in office. Residents will see safer streets and neighborhoods almost immediately.
Restoring Community Safety – Our seniors will no longer have to live in fear. They will once again be able to sit on their porches, walk to the store, and enjoy their neighborhoods without being afraid of crime.
Reforming Education – Our schools will be restored as places of discipline, learning, and civic pride. The Pledge of Allegiance and morning prayer will return to all public schools. Mandatory vocational training and home economics will be implemented in all schools from 6th to 12th grade, equipping students with real-world skills for success. Pre-K to 5th grade, developing strong reading and mathematics proficiency.
Washington, D.C., deserves leadership that is proactive, fearless, and committed to real change. As a native Washingtonian with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies and a minor in mathematics, I bring both the academic foundation and lived experience needed to lead this city forward. I am also currently completing my master’s degree in government at Harvard University, further strengthening my ability to bring effective governance to our nation’s capital.
The time for weak leadership is over. The time for real solutions is now. Vote Ernest E. Johnson for Mayor of Washington, D.C.
