28 sept 2019

IMPORTANT  ANNOUNCEMENT:

After over 2600 signed the community petition on the Jelleff Field Deal, the DC Council has formally announced a public hearing and invites you to come share your input on Monday, October 21 downtown - or in writing.

Attached is the link to the announcement of the upcoming DC Council Oversight Roundtable:  “Access to the Public Field at Jelleff Recreation Center” with instructions on how you can testify on Oct. 21 at 11am at city hall (the Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Ave NW, room 500). You must register to testify by close of business on Friday, October 4th.  Please email RYA@dccouncil.us with your name, address, telephone number, organization affiliation, and title. Please cc us (jelleffcommunity@gmail.com), so we can keep track of all the community testimony.  It is important that the DC Council hear from as many affected or concerned residents, students, parents, and community orgs as possible.

From the DC Council announcement:
"The purpose of the roundtable is to conduct oversight regarding the Department of Parks and Recreation's approval of a contract that provides access to the Jelleff Recreation Center for the Maret School during afterschool hours for ten years. There has been significant community need for additional field access by the recreation center, neighboring public schools, and the community at large. Community stakeholders provided considerable input expressing their desire for the Department of Parks and Recreation to not renew the use agreement with the Maret School."

THANK YOU to the over 2600 of you who have signed the petition.  Please sign if you haven't already, and share with others.

AND - Please sign up to testify today!  After you sign up, be sure to write your own DC Councilmember and ask him/her or their staff to attend the hearing as well.  Click Here for Councilmembers' contact information and more information and for other ways to help. If you cannot attend in-person on the 7th, you can send written comments by Oct 18 to rya@dccouncil.us - please cc us as well - jelleffcommunity@gmail.com
