Thanks to YOUR advocacy, during an extremely difficult city budget process we were able to restore $2.8 million in funding for community composting - and yet, three of our essential compost sites now face eviction by the NYC Parks Department! To prevent this from happening, please sign this letter to the Parks Commissioner and the Mayor and spread the word.
These community composting sites-- Big Reuse (in Queens), Lower East Side Ecology Center (in Manhattan) and Red Hook Compost (in Brooklyn)--create local green jobs, provide educational and volunteer opportunities, improve soil health, and compost some of our parks’ yard waste for free.
As reported in Politico, “If the composters can’t strike a deal with the Parks Department soon, they’ll have to start their programs from scratch with relatively little money in their coffers.”
Thank you for your continued support of community composting. Together, let’s Save Our Composting sites and green jobs.
