While NYC’s 2021 budget was disappointing, City Council did restore $2.9m for community composting. We’ve been told that without our collective advocacy, composting would have been completely eliminated from the budget.

So to everyone who signed petitions, called and emailed our representatives, posted on social media, handed out fliers, and otherwise advocated for composting: thank you.

This is not the $7m in community composting funding we had hoped for--which would have funded both the NYC Compost Project and GrowNYC’s compost operations--but it is a lifeline that will allow some form of community composting to continue (exact details of what this funds are TBD).
