Mayo needs an animal welfare inspector appointed in order to control and target the level of cruelty, abandonment and neglect that is rampant in our county. The west of Ireland is starkly devoid of an animal welfare inspector and we deserve the same as other counties. Without the power that comes with an animal welfare inspector to target abuse, legislation that allows them remove animals from situations of abuse, we will never be able to properly protect the animals in our county. Animal welfare charities in Mayo are on their knees and need the support of an animal welfare inspector. The dog warden is merely there to check dog licences and ensure dogs are chipped.
