DO NOT RENEW The Forever Paws City Of New Bedford Contract
The Issue
The City Of New Bedford and Forever Paws have repeatedly failed the public and taxpayers honoring their own contract. New Bedford Professional Standards investigation #1941 both Forever Paws & Animal Control described the relationship as "loosey goosey" . The taxpayers of the City of New Bedford have been paying this shelter $55.000 a year . No city contract should be loosey goosey especially when it comes to animal welfare. Animals have been proven to be picked up 1 day and brought to shelter 6 days sometimes 24 days later all while failure to follow contract to advertise these same animals daily.
In April of 2018 a stray beagle the public named Jackie was picked up by the City of New Bedford on April 4 . Jackie did not appear on any website or postings from the City of New Bedford or Forever Paws until April 28th on Forever Paws's beyond flaws "Finding Rover Website" . Finding Rover stated Jackie was found "Near Fall River" when she was found in New Bedford at Industrial Park 20 miles away from where Forever Paws is stating she was found at and 24 days after New Bedford ACO Maciel picked up the dog.
The city contract clearly states every dog picked up by the city needs to go to Forever Paws and their 10 day stray hold starts immediately upon pickup. New Bedford Professional Standards investigation #1941 also confirmed our fears that the New Bedford ACO has been picking animals up and "calling in" the information over the phone to Forever Paws and their 10 day clock begins despite not physically being at shelter for owner to come and claim and never being advertised by the city until when shelter acquires that animal who then inputs incorrect data into their "Finding Rover" system. At the end of 2018 New Bedford Animal Control after New Bedford Professional Standards investigation #1941 finally started posting animals on this website here but sparingly not daily like contract dictates.

Fast forward to June 2019 A New Bedford resident loses her dog on June 14th around 10 am. New Bedford ACO picks dog up named Ivi and assures the people who found dog at the school that animal will be brought to Forever Paws that night. The owner Mary Anne calls the shelter on that same day and leaves a message. She then plays phone tag over the weekend with Animal Control until Tuesday June 18th when she is told by ACO that they did not pick up her dog and Forever Paws calls same day informing her they do not have her dog. This frantic distraught animal lover contacts us who then checks the infrequently updated Animal Control Pick Up Page that New Bedford Police have only mentioned once ever on social media. Sure enough her senior puggie Ivi is being listed as picked up by New Bedford Animal Control on June 14th with the incorrect breed stating her as a "terrier mix" (we also have photos to back that up)
We then check "Finding Rover" and sure enough on June 18th the very same day the shelter told the owner that they did NOT Have her dog there she is inputted into "Finding Rover" by Forever Paws as intaked on June 18th and found near Forever Paws Animal Shelter which is 14.8 miles away from the Pacheco School where dog was found in New Bedford. as shown here https://findingrover.com/showpet/YkyhDceiDs
Despite the city's and the shelters mistake they both still demanded this woman pay for the boarding fees from Friday till Tuesday. Forever Paws and the City of New Bedford both need to be held accountable for jeopardizing animals lives and failure to follow the city contract therefore please sign this petition to help get a CHANGE for these animals and GIVE THEM A VOICE!! The shelter and the cities contract ends this month and it cannot be renewed with how these two parties have been acting !!
The City of New Bedford pays the shelter $55.000 a year and the shelter admitted to the Standard Times in july of 2018 they do honor contract and post every animal but now call themselves just a "holding facility" . Every boarding fee from found animals in New Bedford go back to the city. This has been a greed money making operation for 15 years and needs to end!!!
