Massachusetts: Investigate Animal Adventures & Relocate Animals to Accredited Facilities
The Issue
We are calling on the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife, the USDA, and other relevant state and federal agencies to investigate the conditions at Animal Adventures, which operates locations in Bolton and Hubbardston, Massachusetts, and to take appropriate enforcement action—up to and including license revocation and the relocation of animals to accredited AZA or ZAA facilities.
Animal Adventures markets itself as a "zoological facility and rescue center," yet the conditions observed at this family-owned operation raise serious concerns about animal welfare. During a visit to the facility, I witnessed crocodilians housed in enclosures that appeared inadequate in size and environmental enrichment, and a python kept in a terrarium so small that the animal could barely move. These are not isolated issues—they appear to reflect a broader pattern of substandard care.
This facility houses endangered and rare species that deserve housing consistent with professional zoological standards. Animals in human care—especially those belonging to vulnerable or endangered populations—should be maintained in environments that meet or exceed the accreditation standards set by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) or the Zoological Association of America (ZAA).
We urge state and federal authorities to conduct a thorough inspection of Animal Adventures, evaluate whether its current licensing should continue, and develop a plan to transfer animals to accredited facilities where they can receive the quality of care they deserve.
These animals need better. They need advocates. Please sign and share this petition.
